Easter Island Hibiscus Flower

Easter Island Hibiscus

When I started to exit the plane door and the humid subtropical air hit me a fresh smell permeated my senses and right then I knew that this island was something special. While I painted this hibiscus flower memories of the first day of my trip came back to me. Raphael, a native Easter Island man was kind enough to furnish us rooms in his home. He had a beautiful garden filled with banana trees, avocado trees, taro, and hibiscus. The hibiscus in this watercolor painting is from Raphael’s garden on the first day of my arrival to Rapanui.
